Handover Takeover of New Academic and Administrative Facilities at the College

KENYA–US PARTNERSHIP STRENGTHENS NDC’S STRATEGIC EDUCATION

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has strengthened its strategic education and leadership development capacity following the official handover and takeover of new academic and administrative facilities at the National Defence College (NDC), Karen.
Developed through the longstanding Kenya–United States defence partnership, the modern complex expands NDC’s infrastructure and provides an improved environment for strategic learning, research and professional development. The additional facilities will increase the College’s capacity to host senior military officers, civilian officials and strategic leaders from Kenya and beyond.
Presiding over the ceremony on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary for Defence, the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces (VCDF), Lieutenant General John Omenda, commended the enduring Kenya–US partnership, noting that the project goes beyond infrastructure development to strengthen institutional and intellectual capacity.
NDC Commandant, Lieutenant General Juma Mwinyikai, said the facilities will enhance the College’s ability to fulfil its mandate of developing strategic leaders equipped to respond to emerging national, regional and international security challenges.
United States Chargé d’Affaires Carla Benini reaffirmed her country’s commitment to supporting strong institutions that contribute to regional peace and security, describing the complex as an investment in future strategic leaders.
The ceremony brought together senior KDF leadership, US Government representatives, members of the United States Military Group, NDC faculty, Course 29 participants and invited guests.
The new facilities mark a significant milestone in NDC’s transformation and further strengthen its role as a centre of excellence in strategic studies, professional military education and leadership development.
