THE 40TH COLLEGE ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
On Tuesday, 4 August 2026, the National Defence College hosted its 40th College Advisory Board Meeting, bringing together senior government and military leaders to review the institution’s progress and discuss its strategic direction.
The meeting was chaired by the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya (PhD). In her opening remarks, Dr. Imbunya emphasized the importance of strengthening leadership development, enhancing institutional excellence, and fostering collaboration between government agencies and the security sector. She commended the National Defence College for its continued role in preparing senior leaders to address emerging national, regional, and global security challenges.
Among the distinguished participants was the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General John Omenda, whose presence underscored the Kenya Defence Forces’ commitment to supporting professional military education and strategic leadership. Also in attendance was the Commandant of the National Defence College, Lieutenant General Juma Mwinyikai, who welcomed members of the Advisory Board and presented a comprehensive report on the college’s achievements, ongoing programmes, and future priorities.
During the meeting, members reviewed key agenda items, including the implementation of previous resolutions, academic and administrative developments, institutional governance, and strategies for enhancing the college’s capacity to deliver world-class strategic education. Discussions also focused on strengthening partnerships with government institutions, academia, and international partners to ensure the college remains responsive to the evolving security environment.
Board members acknowledged the college’s continued commitment to excellence in strategic studies, leadership development, and national capacity building. They expressed confidence in the institution’s ability to adapt to emerging challenges while maintaining its reputation as a premier centre for strategic learning.
The Chairperson encouraged the college’s leadership to sustain the momentum in implementing reforms, promoting innovation, and strengthening human capital development. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance institutional performance and contribute to national development.
The meeting concluded with the adoption of key resolutions aimed at further improving governance, academic quality, research, and stakeholder engagement. Members expressed appreciation to the Commandant, the faculty, and the staff of the National Defence College for their dedication and professionalism in advancing the institution’s mission.
The 40th College Advisory Board Meeting reaffirmed the National Defence College’s vital role in developing strategic leaders capable of safeguarding national interests and contributing to regional and international peace and security.
