NDC MENTORS STUDENTS FROM LIGHT ACADEMY MOMBASA.

On Monday 3rd August 2026, mentorship took centre stage at the National Defence College (NDC) as Form Four students and teachers from Light Academy, Mombasa, visited the institution on for an interactive career guidance and leadership engagement.

The programme, which forms part of the College’s wider mentorship initiatives targeting learning institutions across the country, provided the students with an opportunity to interact with senior military officers and public sector leaders, who inspired them to pursue academic excellence, integrity, discipline and purposeful leadership.
The students were received by the Commandant of the National Defence College, Lieutenant General Juma Mwinyikai, who welcomed them to the College and encouraged them to remain focused on their studies while embracing resilience, patriotism and strategic thinking. He further challenged the learners to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), emphasizing the critical role such fields play in national development and innovation.
Participants of NDC Course No. 29 (2026/2027) facilitated the mentorship sessions, drawing from their diverse professional experiences to guide the students on career planning, leadership, goal-setting and responsible citizenship. The interactive discussions gave the learners valuable insights into the opportunities and responsibilities that come with serving the nation in different capacities.

The visit also included a guided tour of the College’s facilities, where the students gained firsthand exposure to the institution’s role in preparing senior leaders for strategic leadership and national security. The engagement concluded with the students expressing appreciation for the mentorship experience, which left them inspired and better prepared to pursue their academic aspirations and future careers.
