Major General Andrew Karanja Ikenye is currently the Deputy Commandant (Military) of the National Defence College – Kenya (NDC – K) following his promotion and appointment on 17 April 2015. He has a military career spanning over 35 years of service. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Chief of Operations and Training at the Kenya Army Headquarters. He holds a BSc degree in Military Studies and Diplomacy, a MA in International Relations from the American University in London and a post graduate Diploma in Strategic Security Studies from the National Defence University – China.
Major General Ikenye joined the Kenya Army in 1978, was commissioned in April 1979 and posted to the Army Artillery as a Gun Position Officer (GPO).
Major General Andrew Ikenye has served in various capacities among others as Chief of Operations and Training at the Headquarters – Kenya Army, Commandant Defence Forces Memorial Hospital, Col Operations Other Than War (OOTW) at Defence Headquarters, Col Intelligence at the Directorate of Military Intelligence, Defence Attaché in the Republic of Egypt and Battery Commander (BC). He also served as United Nations Military Observer (UNMO) in Yugoslavia 1993/94 and as Chief of Staff in the UN Mission in Chad and CAR 2009/10
Major General Ikenye is married to Elizabeth Ikenye and they are blessed with four children, Evelyne, Maureen, Martin and Sarita.
